The development of the internet and simplified interaction it brings though multi-channel digital communication should have presaged a reduction in the need for physical movements. The reality however is that distances travelled by both people and goods continue to increase year on year and hence the demand for transport innovation grows ever stronger. Constraints from an over-riding requirement for safety, coupled with rising costs of energy and restrictions on emissions has led to a number of new vehicle technologies gaining prominence. This presentation builds on these to look into the future for transport and attempts to predict what we might be seeing as normal by the middle of this century.
